Parthenia was created as a devil at the dawn of time, but she was sent to earth unaware of her own true nature. In her first human incarnation, she met a vampire and was embraced into that existence. Centuries went by, and she traveled the ancient world and then Europe, manufacturing countless human lives to shroud her vampiric existence. At times, she inserted herself into the great houses of governmental ministers and nobles, so that she could learn the art of politics. Other times, she longed for solitude and lived in humble villages, hiding in obscurity. Occasionally she crossed paths with others like herself, but mostly she avoided them, until some point in the seventeenth century, when she began to crave the company of her own kind.
As she became acclimated to the vampire society as it existed, she advocated for a rule of law from which all vampires could benefit, seeing as she had experienced a certain amount of tyranny herself. Centuries slipped past, and before she knew it Parthenia had become the matriarch of many generations of vampires. Eventually, she was deeply honored when the great Source granted her a bloodline of her own, and she became an Arch, a role in which she delighted as she settled in to a very busy existence. She continued to take care of the thriving family just as she always had, but she also had the new pleasure and privilege of fostering new leaders, rejoicing as she saw them reach their goals.
But in lives lived over centuries of human time, things are bound to change. One fateful evening then-Diabolic Oberon spoke to Arch Parthenia about becoming a Greater Diabolic. The sagacious vampire elder, whose mentorship Arch Parthenia had long enjoyed, explained that he was on the precipice of taking on a new role, that of Apeiron. The soon-to-be Apeiron divulged to Arch Parthenia the unrepeatable mysteries of being a diabolic, as she was destined to become one. Soon she went through apotheosis and learned the secrets of the role. No longer an arch vampire, but a devil, she emerged from that transformative night, and left her bloodline in the hands of an accomplished sovereign who was at that time her then-husband, Chano Ponteveccio.
The Church Horngold bloodline, rechristened as Church Ponteveccio, flourished under the leadership of Arch Chano and his Blood Regent, Alejandra Rassir, who became his wife. One of the high points of their leadership was the bloodline’s participation – along with many other bloodlines -- in the Red War, whose goal was greater equality for all vampires. This was a period of great exuberance, excitement, and growth. But suddenly, tragedy struck. We lost Blood Regent Alejandra unexpectedly to the final death, and the bloodline went into a period of profound mourning.
Blood Regent Alejandra had been a wonderful representative of the bloodline at the Arch Conclave and embodied the bloodline’s founding principle of helping vampires reach their goals, especially those wishing to form clans of their own. Following the passing of Blood Regent Alejandra, Arch Chano chose two wise and energetic vampires, both his beloved daughers, to fill key roles: Verðandi Church Franizzi became the new Blood Regent and Ƒєłi Cђuяcђ ÐαякƑiяє stood beside her as Arch Advisor to guide the bloodline forward. Blood Regent Verdandi was honored to step in, and she and Feli led the line phenomenally through turbulent times.
But, as the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus said centuries ago, “the only constant” in life “is change.” Change can be painful but also productive of growth. So first, the pain –Arch Chano’s departure from our ancient ways, which led to our sundering of ties with him.
The bloodline’s core ideology had always been to respect and encourage all forms of vampiric life. Over time, however, Arch Chano, a great warrior who equated fighting with the renegade lifestyle, showed increasing partiality to that way of life, and dreamed of becoming the facilitator of an exclusively renegade collective. To that end, he wished to incorporate certain groups within the bloodline that were incompatible with its core values. Our bloodline, with new leadership and new name, became unrecognizable to us, and began to break apart, with most of the clans scattering far and wide except for those who wished to explore the new renegade project. We, who had seen what we thought was firm ground shift under our feet, were bereft, feeling the loss of our father and the fellowship of our family, but we tried to adapt.
Our wise Source saw the pain and turmoil that many were experiencing, and made the decision – for which we will always be grateful -- to preserve our line. He elevated the talented and honorable Verðandi Church Franizzi to the role of Arch, and this has allowed us to keep our families together and ensures that our bloodline will maintain its proud traditions and continue making important contributions to Progeny.
And so, you see, there is both growth and pain that come with change, and change is inevitable when you are going to live for thousands of years. We are now reborn as the Church-Franizzi bloodline.
