FAQs about the PLS

What is the difference between how cases were held up to this day and the Progeny Legal System? Up to this day you would normally go to your Sire, House Officers and/or Clan Officers after an incident where your freedom was restricted by another member of the Realm. Both parties involved would get in touch and the outcome becomes unknown: the accused may proceed to choose not to reply or may argue that the case has no fundaments among other excuses. With the Progeny Legal System, your claim will be accepted and with the assistance of prepared Devil’s Advocates alongside Arches in the role of Judges a proceeding will begin and whether the accused replies or not, you will have an official response and the outcome will be public to all community.

How do I proceed if I want to denounce somebody? In case you want to file a complaint against another member of the Realm, you have to go to the Progeny land (Progeny Castle and Grounds), take the elevator to the Arch Court and click on the crystal to your right. A link to a web will open and you can fill the complaint form. You can always ask help to an Usher at the Castle that will guide you around. And please, keep in mind that you can withdraw the complaint once it has been processed, but you won’t be able to present another case with the same cause against the same member of the community once withdrawn.

What if my complaint is about a violation of Diabolic Laws/System Laws? All cases are received via the crystal at the Arch Court on Progeny land, though while cases involve the violation of Diabolic Laws/System Laws and/or against Arches of the Realm, they will be solved by the Diabolic Conclave. If the case involves laws and resolutions at community level, they will proceed via the Progeny Legal System.

How can I support my complaint? It is always important to have visual evidence such as static or animated images of live chats (not chats taken after you went offline) and images of photos taken inside SL while the incident occured. You also have to provide more evidence such as witnesses, if any, for the time a Devil’s Advocate gets in touch with you. Images like gyazo, lightshot, etc, are well accepted, though not textures uploaded back to SL.

Do I need to learn legal terms, defend myself or get in touch with the other party involved? No. Whether you presented a claim or a complaint was presented against you, it will be the responsibility of the Progeny Legal System and your assigned Devil Advocate to deal with internal and external affairs, always preserving your best interests.

How do I know if my case proceeded via the PLS? A Devil’s Advocate as your legal representative will get in touch with you no more than 48 hours after you presented your claim.

What if I perceive a conflict of interests with my assigned Devil’s Advocate? In that case, you have the right to request a new legal representation within the first 48 hours after the first contact by the DA was made. He/she will provide a form for you to fill and in less than 48 hours after the request is presented, you will get assigned a new DA.

What if I decide not to answer a Devil’s Advocate since a complaint was presented against me? We highly recommend you to answer for your best interest. If you decide not to answer to your legal representation nor a summoning from an Arch Judge, it will be in their power to proceed to get in touch with the Officials of your House and/or Clan to obtain answers and may escalate to a formal Kill on Sight (KOS) throughout the community until you face justice.

Once I get my legal representation, what proceeds and what should I expect? After you have met with your assigned Devil Advocate, the assigned Arch Judge to your case will summon both parties on which the accused party should accept or decline the accusation. If the accusation is accepted, a Negotiation will proceed on which the accused part will have to offer compensation to the accuser. If the accused decides to not accept the accusation, the case will proceed to a Trial.

How involved will I be in a case whether I filed a complaint or while being accused? Your involvement will be at the moment of the first interview with your Devil’s Advocate, at the moment you get summoned by the Arch Judge and, in case the accused decides to reject the accusation, assisting the Trial.

What happens at a Trial? A Trial will be celebrated at the Arch Court where Diabolics, Chiefs Justice, Arch Judges, legal representatives among the community will be present. Trials are announced to the public via Progeny groups. Once both parties present their cases, the Arch Judge will emit a verdict. The accused party has the right to appeal the verdict before the Chief Justice in charge within 48 hours after the Trial has been celebrated. If no appeal has been presented, an Executor (Blood Regent) will proceed to oversee the fulfillment of the penalty. It is only after the penalty has been fulfilled that the case will be closed.

What if one of the parties involved are not present at the Trial? It will be up to the Arch Judge to decide on dropping the case or proceed to a penalty.

How long can I estimate for the whole legal process? An estimated time for a whole legal process since the complaint was accepted via the PLS and final closure of the case is 20-25 days.
